Located on the Cannock Extension Canal at Lime Lane, close to the junction with the A5 is Norton Canes Boatbuilders. This modern boat yard occupies the former site of Yates Brothers who commenced boat building operations here as far back as 1846.

The Cannock Extension Canal once continued for a further four miles or so on the northern side of the A5 (Watling Street). However, this section was abandoned in 1963.
